Once a child is born, nothing matters more than his or her access to education. I believe one can trace all "social problems" back to this area, regardless of age or intervening circumstances. Here are a few of the many good places on the web to explore this important topic.

• National Adult Literacy and Learning Disabilities Center : Illiteracy is America's dirty secret. This site opens the door to many good resources -- and ways that you might help.
• LiteracyLink [revised URL], a service of PBS, is another wonderful starting point for information about adult literacy and other learning issues.
• Urban Education Web: A good starting point for this subject.
• Institute for the Study of Civic Values: Starts with the Bill of Rights and covers a lot more. From the cradle of democracy, right here in Philadelphia.
• KidsCom Home Page: Cool communications playground for kids 4-15. Oh, all right -- adults are also allowed in.
• My Old School(s): Some people keep going back until they get it right.
